Pair of Bodies
These black & gold brocade "bodies" are a good example of late-Tudor period corsets, from 1595 to 1605. Front and back closing for extra adjustability, wide synthetic baleen bones, an extremely comfortable tabbed waist, and about 80 handsewn eyelets. Worn over the shift, this structural garment not only gently compresses the body into a smooth, cylindrical shape, but it also evenly distributes the pressure from the weight of countless yards of fabric onto the hips where its most comfortable.
