Tudor Underpinnings
Any Tudor outfit requires a host of different layers beneath to give it structure, volume, and shape. The linen shift is your washable base layer. Over that goes your pair of bodies (this is an older term for your corset, pre stays) and your bum roll to give your hips that extra oomph. It also has the added benefit of keeping your petticoats away from your legs so they don't get tangled. Atop those layers, you can add a partlet or a ruff to fill in the neckline beneath your bodice and show off that valuable handmade lace.
